Photos of Heidi Hammel's Hats,
Handbags and Fine Art
The following are examples of my work that you can find at my retail shows, in exhibits and in my studio. Each piece is one-of-a-kind.
Hats

This pill box hat started out as a sweater. The ornaments are hand made.

Handbags

This handbag was once a skirt. It is fully lined and features multiple internal pockets.
My
'tie bags' are a just the right size to hold a cell phone or car
keys. Made from a silk necktie.

Art Pieces
The following are display pieces that I created for fine art shows.
Watershed Series
Watershed I and II were my response to a community art center exhibit asking local artists to consider the local watersheds before and after the influx of European settlers. Watershed I is sub-titled "Before." Watershed II is sub-titled "Darby Creek, Low Tide." The jury chose to include Watershed II in the exhibit.

Attachment Series
'Disappeared' and 'The Two
Rules' are part of the 'Attachment' series.
In 2005 my father died. Grief brought a greater intensity to my
life-long attempts to make sense of our relationship. The
predictable patterns and threads in my life made way for inchoate
confusion. All of my life I have depended on words to make
abstracts real and knowable. This time, I had no words. I sought
solace in tangible, multi-textured and malleable textiles. The
result is the “Attachment” series, two of which are included here.
They reflect several strong threads that defined my relationship
with my father. The “Attachment” series is a work in progress.
